Have you ever wondered why it seems like some people are just more lucky or successful in life?

Whether it’s the wealthy business person, the all-star athlete, or your favorite idol, they all have something in common: Good habits.

Luck is just a combination of timing and preparedness.  In other words, luck is what you make it.

Having good habits will prepare you for when those lucky opportunities come up in life and help you to become successful.

Here is a list of the Top 5 Habits of Successful People:

TIME

One thing all successful people value most, whether it be Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, or Elon Musk, is TIME.  Fortunes aside, time is your most precious resource – so spend it wisely!  Retrain your mind by viewing time as currency. Start to think more about how, where and who you want to spend your time with as this will help you to manage your time in a more productive manner and let you focus on your goals and dreams.

GOALS

Once you understand the value of your time, you’ll want to set some goals.  Goals are what drive you to become successful.

Setting goals helps for two major reasons:

  1. They help you get the things you want! Imagine that. Goals will turn the passion you have into the drive you need to succeed.  Maybe you want to Achieve Financial Freedom.
  2. Goals give you a clear vision on what you need to accomplish. No more wandering through life without purpose.

Set yourself up with long-term and short-term goals.  The long-term goals may require months or even years to complete and that can feel like a long time to wait.  That is why short-term goals are important to have as well because they will fill the space between now and the time you reach those longer goals.

The choice is your own on how you want to reach your goals.  Once you have a clear idea of what your goals are, it’s time to start your journey – which takes us to our next habit.

KNOWLEDGE

To quote Darren Hardy, (The Entrepreneur Rollercoaster) “If you aren’t improving, you are falling behind.”  Just because you don’t know how to do something today doesn’t mean you can’t start learning it for tomorrow.  If you have hopes and dreams of being successful in life, start asking questions like, “What skill do I need to learn in order to get to where I want to be in life?”

For some, the journey might lead to a few night classes after work or an online training course.  For others, maybe a few months of trial and error will be needed to find your niche or learn how to improve a particular skill.

The key to success is never stop learning.

Once you have your goals in order, figuring out how to reach them becomes less challenging through education.

PHYSICAL HEALTH

Something that is commonly overlooked and under-appreciated is merely being physically active.  Studies have shown that participating in physical activity provides tremendous benefits, from preventing health risks such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes as well as mental health benefits toward depression, anxiety and stress.

Your body is a vehicle and you want everything running smoothly when traveling down the road to success.

MENTAL HEALTH

Last, but certainly not least, is mental health.  Maintaining a strong and healthy mental state is integral to becoming a successful person.  Part of what makes someone successful is believing in yourself and what you are trying to achieve.

The goals you set for yourself should make you excited and happy, and want to reach out for them. While the thought of failure can be scary, failing is also the perfect time to learn: “You only truly find the answer to your question after you have failed trying to answer it.”

Remember that these are all tools to help you achieve the lifestyle you desire.  Be honest and identify your own weak points so you can begin taking control and start reaching your goals.

The time for wishing for your dreams to come true is over.

To channel Shia LaBeouf: Do not put something off tomorrow that you could be doing today.

Life will not reach your goals for you, so let’s get out there and get to work!
